Dilution Instructions:
To make 1 litre of Poultry Shield Solution, mix 200ml of Poultry Shield Concentrate with 800ml Clean Water.
Directions for Use:
1: Remove any old bedding, removable equipment, litter and debris from the poultry house. *The poultry house should be completely dry before the solution is applied. If the house is sprayed when the walls are still wet, the solution will be diluted again - making it virtually ineffective.
2: Thoroughly spray the interior of your hen house from top to bottom with Poultry Shield solution including all your nest boxes, perches and any other fittings (a garden hand pump sprayer or knapsack sprayer is ideal for this so you can give the hard to reach places a good soak). Pay particular attention to the roof joints and underneath your nest boxes and perches and then leave for an hour to thoroughly soak. *Don't rely on just 'misting' the poultry house, as it has to be thoroughly wetted with the solution so that the liquid can penetrate all the cracks and crevices. This will ensure the removal of all the red mite eggs as well as the red mite.
3: Following the hours soak, wash/brush clean your hen house making sure that you thoroughly wash away any debris. Repeat again within 7 days as a precaution against any missed areas or 'hot spots' (areas where the solution has been unable to penetrate, and lice or mite eggs are still alive). If your poultry house has a slated floor, it is advisable to take out the slats from the house, scrape off all the detritus and thoroughly spray them. Repeat again before putting them back in the poultry house. *If you have a felt roof, ensure that the edges are fully stuck down, as this is a great habitat for red mite. Poultry Shield will not be able to clean between the felt and roof, as it simply cannot reach. If the felt has come away, the best advice would be to strip the felt off completely and re-felt after treatment. Ideally, replace the felt roof with Onduline sheeting.
4: All the other equipment which had been removed before cleaning your hen house should be given a good wash with Poultry Shield. This will ensure everything has been cleaned and sanitised. For ease if you have a large bucket, you could fill this with Poultry Shield solution and leave to soak whilst you are cleaning the house. Then give them a brush and a rinse before putting back into your clean house.
