Boswellia Powder (also known as Indian Frankincense) is obtained from gum resin. For horses, Boswellia is primarily used to maintain healthy joints, helping to keep movements smooth and comfortable. Boswellia works quickly. Some herbs may take weeks to be effective, but in one study, Boswellia reduced pain and improved knee-joint functions within seven days. It can also help treat arthritis and inflammation, making it an ideal supplement for older horses and ponies. Boswellia is relatively gentle on the gastrointestinal track and is often used to aid digestion and provide colonic support. Boswellia has also been found to aid respiratory health, and can be beneficial for horses with laminitis.
