Instructions / Feeding Guide

How to use Hatchwells Bird Nest Felts:

Preparation:

• Clean the nest pan: Ensure your plastic or wire nest pan (such as a Hatchwells Canary Nest Pan) is completely clean and disinfected before you begin.

• Check the fit: Ensure the 13cm (5-inch) felt mat matches the diameter of your nest pan so it lies flat and snug.

Installation & Securing:

• Place the felt inside: Press the flat felt disc firmly down into the curve of the nest pan.

• Secure it (Optional but Recommended): Some breeders like to use a small dab of non-toxic, pet-safe glue or double-sided tape on the bottom of the pan to hold the felt firmly in place. This prevents the birds from accidentally pulling it out or shifting it.

Adding Nesting Material:

• Provide extra loose material: While the felt provides a great insulated base, birds still have a natural instinct to build.

• Offer safe fibers: Provide a small amount of loose nesting material—such as Hatchwells Nesting Hair, coconut fiber, or shredded tissue—nearby in the cage. The parents will use this to line the felt and customize the nest shape.

Maintenance:

• Monitor for cleanliness: Check the nest regularly. If the felt becomes heavily soiled with droppings or damp, replace it with a fresh one to prevent bacteria or parasite buildup.

Shipping Rates

For all orders placed on our website, delivery is available to England, Scotland and Wales only (we are currently not shipping to Northern Ireland).
